Preparation before cutting operation
Training of operators should be done. Let the operator know clearly about the hazards of plasma cutting and possible injuries. Let the operator be familiar with the correct operation method and precautions of plasma cutting.
Operators and co-operators must wear protective masks, welding gloves, hats, filter membrane dust masks and soundproof earmuffs, and other equipment. Persons who do not wear protective goggles are strictly prohibited to observe the plasma arc directly. The bare skin is strictly prohibited from approaching the plasma arc. For specific reasons, please refer to What harm does plasma cutting has to the human body? How to deal with it?
It is necessary to check and confirm in advance whether there is any leakage of the power supply. Whether the air source is leaking. If there is any abnormality, please ask professional maintenance personnel to repair it. After the repair is completed, the cutting operation can be carried out.
Before cutting, determine the material, type, and thickness of the workpiece to be cut. Select the nozzle aperture according to the function, adjust the cutting power, gas flow, and electrode shrinkage.
Things to pay attention to during plasma cutting operations
When performing plasma cutting operations, the operator should stand upwind. The air can be drawn from the lower part of the worktable to ensure that you will not inhale the toxic gas generated during plasma cutting.
When cutting, if the no-load voltage is too high. Check the electrical grounding, zero connection, and the insulation of the torch handle in time. Insulate the workbench from the ground, or install a no-load circuit breaker in the electrical control system. The high-frequency generator should be equipped with a shielding cover. After the high-frequency arc is used, the high-frequency circuit needs to be cut off immediately.
Cleaning up after plasma cutting
After the plasma cutting operation, the power should be cut off in time, and the air and water sources should be turned off. It is necessary to clean the metal residue left on the cutting table to ensure the cleanliness of the cutting table. If there is dirt on the contact surface, it will affect the normal operation of the cutting torch. Because the contact surface of the nozzle and the electrode is charged, the nozzle and the electrode need to be cleaned after use.
Matters needing attention in plasma cutting operations
The plasma cutting machine used on site should be equipped with rain, moisture, and sun protection, and be equipped with corresponding fire fighting equipment. Cutting operations cannot be carried out in the open air on rainy days. When working in a humid area, the operator should stand in a place covered with insulating materials and wear insulating shoes to ensure the safety of the operator.
When cutting pressurized containers, sealed containers, oil drums, pipes, and workpieces stained with flammable gases and solutions. Eliminate the pressure in the container and pipeline first, eliminate flammable gases and solutions, and then flush toxic, harmful, and flammable substances. The container with residual grease should be rinsed with steam and alkaline water first. And open the lid, confirm that the container is cleaned, and then fill up with water before cutting. When cutting in the container, measures to prevent electric shock, poisoning, and suffocation should be taken.
Air holes should be left for cutting sealed containers, and equipment ventilation should be installed at the inlet and outlet if necessary. The lighting voltage in the container should not exceed 12V, and the operator and the workpiece should be insulated. A dedicated person should be placed outside the container for supervision. It is strictly forbidden to cut in the container that has been sprayed with paint and plastic. It is strictly forbidden to cut pressure vessels and pipes under pressure. Containers containing flammable and explosive materials cannot be cut.
